What does MOT status tell me?
MOT status shows whether a vehicle currently has a valid MOT certificate and the date it runs out. If the status shows as not valid or expired, the vehicle should not normally be driven on public roads except to a pre-booked MOT test.
What does the tax status mean?
Tax status shows whether the vehicle is taxed, untaxed or declared off the road (SORN), along with the next due date where it is supplied. Tax does not transfer with a vehicle, so a buyer must tax it before driving it away.
Where does the mileage history come from?
Mileage figures are the odometer readings recorded by testers at each MOT. They are a useful guide, but readings can be mistyped and vehicles under three years old usually have no MOT record yet.
What is the difference between a defect and an advisory?
A defect is a fault serious enough to cause an MOT failure. An advisory is a note about something that is acceptable now but is likely to need attention soon, such as a tyre approaching the legal limit.
