About RegPeek

RegPeek is a UK vehicle information service. Enter a registration number and you get the recorded MOT status and history, road tax status and the mileage readings taken at each MOT test, alongside the basic details held for the vehicle such as make, model, year, colour, fuel type and engine size. The basic check is free and does not require an account.

The service exists because the useful information about a used car is scattered. Our aim is to put the parts that matter most on one page, in plain English, so a buyer or owner can make sense of them quickly.

What we are not

RegPeek is an independent service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or operating on behalf of DVLA or DVSA. We do not describe our reports as an “HPI Check”, which is a separate registered brand, and we do not guarantee that third-party data is complete or current. Where something is critical to a purchase, confirm it against the official record, the V5C logbook and the vehicle itself. Our data sources page explains where the information comes from and where it can fall short.

Free and paid checks

• MOT check, car tax and SORN check and mileage check are free.
• The full car history check is a one-off paid report covering outstanding finance, stolen markers, insurance write-off categories, previous keepers, plate changes and import or export markers. There is no subscription.

RegPeek Editorial Team

Guides published on RegPeek are written and maintained by the RegPeek Editorial Team, the small group that also builds and runs the vehicle check itself. The team works with UK motoring rules day to day: MOT testing and exemptions, vehicle tax and SORN, and the records generated when a car is tested, taxed, written off or sold.

Every guide is grounded in official GOV.UK, DVLA and DVSA guidance, with those sources listed at the foot of the article so you can verify them. We do not publish statistics, prices or legal claims we cannot attribute. Our editorial policy sets out how guides are researched, reviewed and corrected.
