The number of previous keepers, any changes of registration number, and whether the vehicle was imported or has been exported. A recent plate change is worth asking about, since it can be used to distance a car from its history.
Mileage readings and specifications
Recorded odometer readings for comparison against the seller's claim, plus make, model, year, engine, fuel type, colour and emissions figures.
What it does not show
- The mechanical condition of the car — only an inspection or test drive shows that.
- Accident damage that was repaired without an insurance claim.
- Service history, which comes from the paperwork and the garage.
- Anything that has not been reported to the relevant database yet.
